How do NFL receiving yards props work?

A receiving yards prop is a market on one player’s receiving yards in one game, usually a wide receiver, tight end or running back. The official total includes yards after catch. The sportsbook posts a line, and each side asks whether that total finishes over or under it. A different line is a different selection.

What counts toward the total

Receiving yards are credited to the player who catches a completed forward pass, from the line of scrimmage to the end of the gain. A catch behind the line can produce negative yards. A dropped pass or an incompletion adds nothing.

A long run after catch counts in full, so one play can account for most of a player’s total. The sportsbook’s rules decide how its market settles; Tikata grades against the official statistic.

What can move the line

Receiving lines respond to the player’s role and to the quarterback throwing the ball. A teammate’s injury can raise a player’s expected targets; a change at quarterback can lower them. The opponent’s coverage, the expected game script and the weather also matter.

A line move records that the market changed. It is not a forecast, and it does not settle which side finishes ahead.

  • Who is playing quarterback.
  • Teammates in or out of the lineup.
  • Opponent coverage and pass rush.
  • Expected score, pace and weather.

Why a few plays decide the outcome

A receiver may see only a handful of targets in a game, so one long catch or one missed connection can move the total across the line. That variance is normal for the market. A small sample of results can swing sharply after a few games. The full record matters more than a highlight.

How Tikata handles receiving yards

Receiving yards is one of the two NFL markets where Tikata publishes picks, with passing yards. Members read each pick with its reasons, its risk and the captured sportsbook terms. The public record reports outcomes as counts, with picks recorded before kickoff counted separately from results graded retrospectively.

A void means the player did not play. A player who played and caught nothing has an actual of zero and is graded normally.
