TIKATA / FIELD NOTES · Reviewed

Does closing-line value prove a pick was good?

No. A closing-line comparison describes how recorded terms compare with a later closing market under a stated method. It is a separate question from whether the pick won, and it does not by itself establish predictive skill or profitability.

Compare like with like

A meaningful comparison needs a defined closing time and matching event, player, market, side and settlement rules. If the line changes, a price-only comparison can be misleading.

A method that adjusts for the sportsbook margin may require both sides of the same market. If an input is missing, the comparison is unavailable rather than a number to estimate silently.

Movement and outcome are different

An individual selection can have a favorable price comparison and still lose. It can also win without a favorable comparison. Neither example settles whether a method is reliable over future games.

Tikata’s current limit

This guide explains the distinction. It does not claim a complete live closing-line dataset, production-wide closing-line measurement, or independent verification. The synthetic measurement walkthrough is an example, not Tikata’s performance record.
